PROJECT EXPERIENCE - SURFACE WATER STUDIES

The following is a representative list of HydroGeo's experience with surface water studies.

  • HDR ENGINEERING, USFS, AND MIDAS GOLD, INC., GOLDEN MEADOWS PROJECT, Valley County, Idaho. Hydrology field survey and report for permitting a proposed gold mine in the Stibnite-Yellow Pine Mining District in central Idaho.
  • ICF INTERNATIONAL, BLM, ENCANA OIL AND GAS, AND CONOCO PHILLIPS, MONETA DIVIDE OIL AND GAS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT, EIS, Fremont and Natrona Counties, Wyoming. Completing a regional watershed modeling study using the Kinematic Runoff and Erosion Model (KINEROS2) and SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool), developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). These studies will be used to assess potential environmental impact for surface water sections of a supplemental Environmental Impact Statement, for the Lander and Casper Field Offices of the BLM.
  • EDGE ENVIRONMENTAL AND BLM, PINEDALE ANTICLINE PROJECT, Sublette County, Wyoming. Completed a regional watershed modeling study using the Kinematic Runoff and Erosion Model (KINEROS2) and SWAT (Soil and Water Assessment Tool), developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). These studies were used to access potential environmental impact for surface water sections of a supplemental Environmental Impact Statement, for the Pinedale field office of the BLM.
  • TRC MARIAH, AND BLM, JONAH AND SOUTH PINEY PROJECTS, Sublette County, Wyoming. Completed Ground water modeling (MODFLOW) and watershed modeling studies using the Kinematic Runoff and Erosion Model (KINEROS2), developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). These studies were used to assess potential environmental impact for surface water sections of two Environmental Impact Statements, for the Pinedale Field Office of the BLM.
  • MOUNTAIN COAL COMPANY, WEST ELK MINE, Gunnison County, Colorado. Completed Annual Hydrologic Reports 2001-present, managed hydrologic monitoring program, water rights augmentation plan, thermistor installation and data analysis, and completed Deep Creek subsidence study. Work on this project has been coordinated with the Colorado Department of Minerals and Geology.
  • ARCH LAND COMPANY, WEST ELK MINE, Gunnison County, Colorado. Completed an irrigation monitoring evaluation of company properties.
  • CRESTED BUTTE MOUNTAIN RESORT, SNODGRASS MOUNTAIN SKI AREA EXPANSION, Gunnison County, Colorado. Completed the surface water hydrology analysis and flume installations in the proposed ski area expansion area as part of the Snodgrass Landslide Study being prepared for the USFS to support development of an Environmental Impact Statement for the Project.
  • ANADARKO PETROLEUM CORPORATION, HANNA DRAW COALBED NATURAL GAS PILOT PROJECT, Carbon County, Wyoming. Completed a Surface Water Technical Repor . The study analyzed potential flow and chemical (salinity) changes to Seminoe Reservoir and the North Platte River resulting from project operations and cumulative impacts from other area projects using a site specific mixing model developed by the EPA. This study will be used to support development of an Environmental Impact Statement for the Project.
  • U.S. FOREST SERVICE, ENERGY WEST MINING COMPANY, AND DAVID EVAN AND ASSOCIATES, COTTONWOOD COAL LEASE TRACT, Emery County, Utah.. Surface water sections of an EIS, including a study of the mining related impacts, including subsidence, on surface water quality and quantity. The on-going project involves preparation of preliminary and final EIS and extensive coordination with the U.S.F.S., U.S.B.L.M., and Utah State Agencies.
  • U.S. FOREST SERVICE and BATTLE MOUNTAIN GOLD COMPANY, CROWN JEWEL GOLD PROJECT, Okanagan County, Washington.. Surface and ground water portions of an extensive EIS including a study of the mining impacts on surface water quality and quantity, pit-lake filling, water quality, and overflow. The project involved preparation of preliminary and final EIS and extensive coordination with the U.S.F.S., WA Department of Ecology, U.S.B.L.M., U.S.F.&W.L., EPA, and COE.
  • U.S. FOREST SERVICE and FMC GOLD CORPORATION, BEARTRACK OPEN PIT GOLD MINE, Lemhi County, Idaho. Completed surface water sections and sediment yield modeling for the Environmental Impact Statement.
  • USMX INC., and SCIENCE APPLICATIONS INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION, THUNDER MOUNTAIN PROJECT, Valley County, Idaho. Surface and ground water parts of an EIS for the proposed Dewey Open Pit Gold Mine.
  • KENSINGTON VENTURE PARTNERS, and U.S. FOREST SERVICE, KENSINGTON UNDERGROUND GOLD MINE, Tongass National Forest, North of Juneau, Alaska. Surface and ground water sections of the EIS for the proposed Kensington underground gold mine.
  • U.S. FOREST SERVICE, STIBNITE MINE INC., and DAKOTA MINING CORPORATION, STIBNITE OPEN PIT GOLD MINES, Valley County, Idaho. . Surface and ground water study for the completion of EIS involving detailed surface water hydrologic and geomorphic investigations and extensive coordination with the USFS, COE, USF&WL, and state agencies.
  • U.S. BLM and SANTA FE PACIFIC GOLD CORPORATION, MULE CANYON PROJECT, Lander County, Nevada. Surface and ground water portions of the EIS.
  • MERIDIAN MINERALS, INC., U.S. FOREST SERVICE (SALMON NATIONAL FOREST), BEARTRACK OPEN PIT GOLD MINE, Lemhi County, Idaho. Surface and ground water sections of the EIS including sediment yield modeling for the EIS.
  • HECLA MINING COMPANY AND U.S.BLM. ROSEBUD GOLD MINE, Pershing County, Nevada. EIS for the proposed underground gold mine. Study included surface, ground water, and geochemical sections.
  • ECHO BAY MINERALS COMPANY, NORTH LAMEFOOT MINE EXPANSION, Republic, Washington. Surface and ground water characterization and impact study and sections of the Environmental Assessment.
  • ECHO BAY MINERALS COMPANY. LAMEFOOT MINE EXPANSION, Republic, Washington. Surface and ground water characterization and impact study and sections of the Environmental Assessment.
  • ECHO BAY EXPLORATION, INC., and ACZ INC. KETTLE RIVER AND LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN UNDERGORUND GOLD MINES, Curlew, Washington. Surface and ground water baseline study, and sections of the EIS.
  • COPPER FLAT EIS, ALTA GOLD COPPER FLAT PROJECT, New Mexico. Conducted field investigations of surface water and groundwater, including pumping tests, packer tests in support of hydrologic characterization of the Alta Gold Copper Flat Project. A regional 3D finite element groundwater flow model was developed and calibrated to predict the effects of well field pumping and open pit mining on local and regional hydrology. The reports and data were submitted in the EIS for new mine operation, and in state permitting documents. Assisted with presentation and defense at public hearings before the state board for Mined Lands.

  • CYPRUS COAL COMPANY. FOIDEL CREEK UNDERGROUND COAL MINE, Routt County, Colorado. Completed a study of the potential impacts of longwall mining operation on alluvial valley floors and surface water resources.
  • PAUL WEIR COMPANY AND MAPCO COAL COMPANY, INC., Gibson County, Indiana. Performed a surface water hydrology study for the proposed underground coal mine. The study included flood plain analysis of the Patoka River adjacent to the project site.
  • WINDSOR COAL COMPANY, AND AMERICAN ELECTRIC POWER SERVICE CORPORATION, WINDSOR UNDERGROUND COAL MINE, Brooke County, West Virginia. Completed the surface water sections of a study of the probable hydrologic consequences of mining.
  • CANYON RESOURCES CORPORATION. BRIGGS PROJECT OPEN PIT GOLD MINE, Inyo County, California. Installed Surface and ground water monitoring at the proposed heap leach, completed a water supply study, including computer modeling, and well field design for the Briggs Project open pit gold mine.
  • CENTENNIAL MINE COMPANY. CENTENNIAL MINE, Elmore County, Idaho. Performed surface water studies for a proposed open pit gold mine, heap leach, and waste disposal facility.
  • CLIMAX MOLYBDENUM COMPANY AND SEI, HENDERSON MINE, Summit County, Colorado. Completed surface water portions of an Environmental Assessment for the Henderson 2000 Project involved the construction of a tramway from the Henderson mine to the mill. Provided a hydrology study for the 404 permit that described the preliminary design and water supply for a constructed wetland.
  • SEVEN-UP PETE JOINT VENTURE OPEN PIT GOLD MINE, Lincoln, Montana. Prepared surface water sections of the Environmental Impact Statement for the State of Montana and Montgomery Watson.
  • DEVILS CREEK TIMBER SALE EA, New Mexico - Completed surface water sections, water yield modeling and cumulative watershed impact analysis for the Environmental Assessment, for the USFS and SEI.
  • DUDLEY & ASSOCIATES, LLC; TRC MARIAH, AND BLM SEMINOE ROAD GAS DEVELOPMENT PROJECT, Wyoming. Completed surface and ground water sections of the Environmental Assessment and Water Management Plan for a Coal Bed Methane Pilot Project, for the Rawlins field office of the BLM.
  • CENTENNIAL MINE COMPANY, Idaho. � Performed surface water studies for a proposed open pit gold mine,heap leach, and waste disposal facility.
